Born in Bologna, Italy, and currently based in Barcelona, Spain, Paolo Curtoni’s artistic identity is shaped by an experience of nomadic life, and a love of cross-cultural influence. Since his encounter with computers in the 1980s, programming languages have become the primary medium of his creative expression, along with his love for the language of humans. In his work he uses algorithmic structures intertwined with the unpredictability of randomness, with an almost grammatical approach, where rules and symbols define the space of creation, that is, the set of possible interactions that will reveal unexpected and complex structures. The theme of “revelation” is in fact central to him: he aims to spark moments of insight and intuitive connections, the dopamine rush of sudden understanding.
